Marvin Dilkey Collection

This collection contains materials related to Marvin Dilkey. This includes newspaper clippings, photographs both of Dilkey and his family, a DePauw Alumnus magazine and a scrapbook of materials about Dilkey. The collection also includes a journal featuring biographies of various American historical figures, handwritten by Dilkey.

These travel diaries are written by Jean Brown. The diaries contain handwritten entries recording Brown's daily life while traveling in South Africa and later Micronesia.

Both diaries contain other materials including postcards, tourist maps, hotel memorabilia, various brochures and guides, newspaper and magazine clippings and photographs.

This collection contains materials related to an exhibition entitled "Similar Differences" that was mounted in Donnelley and Lee Library at Lake Forest College from January-Febraury 1997. The photographs in the exhibition were loaned to the College from both the Coastal Arts League in Half Moon Bay, California and the Quay Arts Centre on the Isle of Wight.

Materials in the collection include correspondence regarding the exhibit, photographs and negatives taken of the exhibit, and photographer biographies and artist statements sent to the College by both the Coastal Arts League and Quay Arts Centre for the exhibit.

Weber & Weber Collection

A substantial portion of the Weber & Weber Collection contains documents relating to the Ravinia Festival Park as Bertram Weber worked on a number of architectural projects at the park. These documents include correspondence and architectural proposals and plans for work on the Pavilion, West Parking Lot, Murray Theater, Gate Building, First Aid Building, and West Toilet Building, among others. Related to Ravinia, there are also financial documents, annual reports, festival publications, art exhibit documents, festival flag designs, as well as Board of Trustee and Executive Committee meeting minutes.

Also in the collection are personal documents of Bertram Weber. This includes correspondence between he and clients and family and friends, as well as documents related to the various clubs and associations to which Weber belonged. The collection also contains architectural tools used by both Bertram and John Weber.

The collection contains a number of building plans and blueprints from projects designed by Weber. These projects include both private residences and public buildings, such as churches, schools and retirement homes. Highlighting two major projects on which Weber worked, there are two series devoted to the Aurora and Exmoor Country Clubs. They contain documentation ranging from designs and contracts to a drawing log, cost estimates and test reports.

Holt Family Photographs

This collection consists of photographs of varying sizes, including those of the Holt family and their home, as well as the Holt-Balcom Saw Mill. The collection also contains travel photographs taken in Wisconsin, where the family lived, and in Colorado. Additionally, there are photographs from the Holt boys’ worldwide tour, including countries in the Middle East and Europe and parts of Russia and Japan.

The Patterson Family Papers consists of newspaper clippings; Joseph Medill Patterson's research notes about the Patterson family; obituaries; and photographs of members of the Patterson family, the staff of the Chicago Tribune, and World War I. The collection also contains a number of correspondences (type and handwritten letters, telegraphs, and typescripts) between members of the Patterson family. Of note is the large number of letters sent from Joseph Medill Patterson to his mother, Elinor Patterson (née Medill), while he was attending the Groton School in Groton, Massachusetts, dated 1891-1893. These letters discuss his day-to-day doings, make frequent mention of his homesickness and desire to leave the school, and show the extremely tight-knit relationship Patterson had with his mother. The entire collection spans a range of dates from 1825 to 1953.

The collection features one folder of correspondence (photocopied) and eleven original editorial cartoons by artist Carey Cassius Orr (1890-1967). As a Pulitizer Prize winning cartoonist, Orr produced much of his witty and pointed work, including all of the pieces in this collection, during his time drawing with the Chicago Tribune from 1917 to 1963. The collection features both black and white and color drawings of various sizes. Many handwritten notes by Orr and Tribune newspaper staff are visible and show the behind-the-scenes work of cartooning for a national newspaper.
