The Chicago Athletic Association Collection contains a number of governance records, including bound volumes of minutes from Board of Director meetings and annual reports dating back to 1890, committee meeting minutes, as well as bound ledgers with financial records.

Other financial and legal records include income statements, contracts, deeds of trust, safe deposit box records, and files regarding trademarks owned by the Association.

The collection also contains documents related to the Association’s acquisition and sale of art, largely oil paintings.

Additionally, the collection boasts a large number of membership materials. These include bound volumes of membership registers, as well as membership resignations and several binders addressing Association privileges and conduct.

The collection also contains typed correspondence, brochures and programs and historical information about the Association, as well as life membership records.

There is an extensive collection of member photographs dating back to the late 1890s.

Unique to the collection are materials related to Olympic athlete and Association member Joie Ray. These include a poster created in support of Ray, a scrapbook with newspaper clippings of his athletic achievements, photographs, race programs, his Association membership cards, a National Track and Field Hall of Fame certificate from 1976 and one of his race uniforms.

This collection consists of a single journal comprised of handwritten, primarily business correspondence from J.H.M Chesney in London to various individuals. At the front of the journal are alphabetical tabs, under which names are written.

This collection consists of documents about inflation, including numerous pamphlets and a magazine article from the Saturday Evening Post. There are also newspaper clippings from the New York Evening Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Journal of Commerce and the New York Times. Some of the clippings from the New York Times are contained within a binder and belong to a 16-part series titled Money and Inflation.

This collection consists of one black leather three-ring binder labeled as a price book. It contains mostly business-related handwritten sheets of lists, arranged alphabetically under tabs. The lists record McCutcheon's financial transactions, annual income, as well as inventories of his assets, such as works of art.

The one folder in the collection contains three items, a bill for a firescreen, an accompanying pencil drawing of this item and also a list of fifteen rooms of furnishings of Jessie McCutcheon Nelson, George’s sister (2 carbon copies of the latter).

This scrapbook, compiled by Yale University class agent of many years George Douglas Miller, contains newspaper clippings, photographs, announcements, pamphlets and other written works related to activities and members of the Yale University class of 1870. Among these graduates was the Reverend Dr. James G.K. McClure, the president of Lake Forest College from 1897-1901. McClure was also a trustee of the college.

Other noted members of the class of 1870 include George Bird Grinnell, a naturalist, conservationist and ethnologist and Edward O. Wolcott, United States senator from Colorado from 1889-1901.

This collection consists of a photo album containing black and white photographs, mostly of Riverside Farm, some with people. There are also small black and white photographs of unknown people, each contained within an envelope labeled with photographer information and subject matter on the outside.

Additionally in the collection are several documents pertaining to the Hoffman family and the history of the farm, as well as a figuring book that contains annual financial reports and contact information for various individuals listed alphabetically.

These three scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings containing not only text, but also a number of images. The articles address various aspects of the Spanish-American War, including the origins of the war, battle summaries and war updates, numerous reports and statements made by president William McKinley and other government officials. The articles come from a variety of news sources, including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Evening Post, Chicago Times-Herald, New York World, New York Herald and New York Journal.

This collection contains newspaper clippings, including those about Robert Seyfarth's death, his son Robert Jr. and his wife, Mary Hays Seyfarth, as well as the Brewster Shirt Factory.

Additionally, the collection contains documents and correspondence to Mary K. Seyfarth (Robert Sr's granddaughter), regarding her grandfather and her career as an artist.

The collection also features family photographs and brochures for Robert Seyfarth home tours.

Rumsey Collection

This collection contains photocopied portions of a Rumsey family history written and edited by Jean Rumsey. Rumsey’s writing and the original documents she incorporated into the family history produced a document 1,350 pages in length. Examples of original documents Rumsey integrated into the history include family correspondence, inventories, newspaper clippings, familial records, and other memorabilia. While only some of the almost 1,400 pages of her work reside as photocopies in this collection, they nonetheless provide a good picture of the Rumsey family.

In addition to the family history, the collection contains another work written by Rumsey titled, "Tour of Lake Forest, Ill. via the 1900 census.” The work speaks to the Rumsey's connection with other Lake Forest residents.

This collection contains correspondence to and from Mary Horton Wadsworth, as well as Lake Forest University Commencement programs from 1889. There are also various programs from Presbyterian churches in Massachusetts and Washington D.C. Additionally the collection contains a book of Lake Forest University class meeting minutes and two poetry books, "Drifting Leaves" and "At Easter's Dawn."

This collection contains a typed manuscript by author Kathy Stevenson of her book "The Lake Poet," set in Lake Forest, Illinois. It also contains two newspaper clippings from the Pioneer Press, one a photocopy. The clippings feature Stevenson's short stories from two separate years that placed first and second, respectively, in the Pioneer Press North Shore Fiction Writing Contest.

Janet Land Art Book

This collection contains an art book belonging to Janet Land (later Van der Eb). The cover features a blue and brown watercolor painting of the classical Greek statue, Athena Lemnia by Phidias.

The art book is divided into two separate sections from a class entitled Art 101. The first section is called "Art Through the Ages" and contains pictures of famous works of art, dating back to cave paintings. The second section, "Reading Notes Second Semester," as the name implies, contains Land's handwritten notes.

This scrapbook contains various photographs of George Jennings, often with the players he coached. There are several photographs solely of tennis players without Jennings pictured in them.

Also in the scrapbook are a few newspaper articles about Jennings and/or the George Jennings Tennis School. Additionally, the scrapbook contains a small amount of correspondence and an award Jennings received for outstanding service from the Professional Lawn Tennis Association.

This collection contains a copy of the text of the book, "Westward Journeys: Memoirs of Jesse A. Applegate and Lavinia Honeyman Porter who traveled the Overland Trail," edited by Martin Ridge. The book was a part of the Lakeside Classics series in Christmas 1989. In addition to the text itself, the collection contains slides and photographs used as illustrations in the book.
