Lake Forest College Alumnus 1927, He participated in basketball, baseball and football. A double-major in physics and history, and a member of Phi Delta Theta.
Served in the US Navy and was the Director of the U.S. Chess Team Federation, Organizer of the Junior Class Tournament and president of the North Shore Chess League.
Received the Distinguished Service Award and an honorary degree of Doctor of Science from Lake Forest College.
Worked in Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as a business research administrator and had an Masters in Statistics from Northwestern University

Scope and content
The collection consists of photographs, correspondence (both original and photocopied versions), newspaper clippings, autographs, extensive travel scrapbooks and diaries, and various documents of biographical memorabilia detailing the lives of the Neltnor-Anthony family and then the life of the collector and family descendant, Edwin Asmann. Overall, the collection is a diverse assemblage, spanning over 100+ years of time, of a well-known West Chicago and also Lake Forest family and its preserved keepsakes.
The collection is split into four distinct series-
Series 1) Photographs of the Neltnor-Anthony and Asmann Familes (Box 1)
Series 2) Neltnor Family Papers (Box 2 and 3)
Series 3) Papers and Scrapbooks of Edwin Asmann (Box 3 and 4)
Series 4) 1883-1892 Travel Diaries of Oliver H. Perkins (a relation of Asmann’s second wife). (Box 5)

Materials donated by Edwin Asmann, Lake Forest College Class of 1927, on October 18, 1987. He donated these documents of his early family (as nephew of Cornelia Neltnor Anthony) and his own life alongside the fan collection of his first wife Muriel Barnes Asmann (Class of 1931).
