Holt, William Arthur, 1865-
1865-1953

William Arthur Holt was born in Lake Forest, Illinois to Devillo and Ellen Holt. He attended Lake Forest Academy and Lake Forest College. He began his career in 1882 at the Holt-Balcom Lumber Company in Chicago, where his father was a partner. In 1888 he moved to Oconto, Wisconsin, where there was also a branch of the lumber company, and began work there, eventually serving as president.

Holt also served as president of the Oconto Canning Company, the Oconto River Improvement Company and the Holt Hardwood Company, the latter of which he was also chairman of the board. Additionally, he was director for a time of the Oconto Falls Manufacturing Company. Holt helped found the Northern Hemlock and Hardwood Manufacturers' Association and the National Lumber Manufacturers’ Association.

Holt served as mayor of Oconto from 1904-1908.

Holt was married in 1895 to Lucy Rumsey Holt. The couple had four children, Jeanette, Alfred, Mary Eleanor and Donald.

Nancy A. Nichols, Boston, MA, and from Waukegan, IL, where she grew up, has been an editor and author of articles and books. In addition to Lake Effect..., she edited Reach for the Top: Women and the Changing Facts of work Life (Boston: Harvard Business Review, 1994). She has written articles for many national periodical and newspaper publications.

Dilkey, Marvin

Marvin Dilkey grew up in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Ora Dilkey. Dilkey received his undergraduate degree in Latin and German from DePauw University in 1932, after which he studied for two years at Bonn University in Germany. Dilkey went on to obtain his PhD in German from Cornell University.

Dilkey taught at both his undergraduate and graduate institutions, as well as Blackburn College. He joined the faculty of Lake Forest College in 1955 as an assistant professor of German and English.

Brown, Cameron
1914-2013

Cameron Brown was born in Chicago to George and Irene (nee Larmon) Brown. He graduated from the University of Illinois. Brown fought in World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the army. After the war, Brown went on to have a career in the reinsurance business. Brown loved to travel and visited over 200 countries in his lifetime.

Brown had a wife, Jean, two daughters, Sophie and Debrah, one son, Reid, and three stepdaughters, Phyllis, Paula and Leila.

Brown served on the board of the National Association of Independent Insurers and was the head of Lloyd's Brokers Association in the United States, as well as being President of Planned Parenthood of Chicago.

Tribolet, Harold W.
1911-1993

Harold W. Tribolet lived for many years in both Chicago and Highland Park, working at R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. from 1927-1973. For much of this time he was the Department of Graphic Conservation manager. Tribolet was also a lecturer at the University of Chicago, the Library of Congress and the New York State Historic Association. Additionally, he served as secretary of the Caxton Club.

In 1970, Tribolet was awarded the United States Presidential Commendation for his work serving as a consultant after the devastating flood of 1966-67 in Florence, Italy.

Tribolet and his wife Mildred had two children, Craig and Donna.
